Desiree Holmes Scherini works in several different media, including pastel, oil,
watercolor, pencil and charcoal, as well as photography. She enjoys painting a variety
of subjects, and particularly enjoys landscapes, portraits, and figure painting and
drawing.
Desiree holds a Bachelors Degree in Psychology, from the University of California. Her
art studies began in college and have continued through classes and workshops with
well known artists whose work she admires. Her focus of study has been the use of
color in the Impressionist method which is used in all of her color painting. She has
studied extensively with followers and past students of Henry Hensche, who studied
with Hawthorne [Egeli, Ebersberger, Boynton, Roth-Anderson]. She has also had
extended studies in portraiture and figure drawing with Cedric and Joanette Egeli. In
recent years she has fallen in love with pastel painting, and has had focused study with
prominent pastel artist, Stan Sperlak.
She enjoys sharing her love of art through teaching others, as well. She has taught art
since 2002, and is currently an adjunct faculty art instructor at Anne Arundel
Community College and an art instructor at Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts, in
Maryland. She also holds private lessons.
Desiree participates in several area art groups. She is a board member of both the Mid-
Atlantic Plein Air Painters Association and the Maryland Society of Portrait Painters.
She is an active member of the Annapolis Watercolor Club, the Annapolis Arts
Alliance, the Maryland Federation of Art and Maryland Hall for the Creative Arts .
Her art has been displayed in several juried and non-juried shows, and is in homes and
businesses across the United States and overseas.
Her artwork has been featured on the cover of the Baltimore Symphony’s Decorators’
Show House 2006 book, as well as posters and other promotional material for the
event. Her painting “Abstract Annapolis” was chosen for promotional material for
ARTWORKS 2006 (a city wide arts celebration), Her artwork was also chosen by
Mayor Ellen Moyer for the City of Annapolis’ 2007 Holiday card, She was the chosen
artist for the celebrated Eastport Yacht Club Lights Parade Poster 2009. Her poster
art appeared on posters, cards and The Capital Gazette’s Entertainment magazine
cover December 2009. Her painting “Sailing the Chesapeake” was chosen to
represent the Hospice Cup 2011, a Charity Regatta to raise funds for hospices in
Maryland, DC and Northern Virginia. The image is used on limited edition posters, t-
shirts and promotional materials throughout the year.
